A breath of her own

Mia was extubated today at 2:00- she has been breathing on her own and loving it. If you have ever been around a baby who has be intubated for awhile, it is the sweetest sound to hear them after the tube it out. You can barely hear her little cry because of the irritation of her vocal chords. Before when she would cry and I couldn't hear anything, now I hear the sweetest tiniest noise of a cry. I just wish I could scoop her up and hold her in my arms. I think I might get the green light tomorrow- THAT will be a good day!

It is always a good thing to not have the tubes in and to see her sweet face. I think it feels like a huge step to be off of the ventilator. Way to go Mia!

I'm amazed at how awesome she is doing!! Way to go Mia...breathing on your own. I'm so proud of that sweet baby. I'm so happy that things are moving right along, and hopefully you will get to hold her tomorrow, what a sweet day that will be. She looks so comfortable and content in this picture I'm so thrilled that she is feeling so much better each day.

I can't believe how good she looks and how quickly she is progressing! You should post a video clip of Mia in 'action'. I would love to see her moving and blinking and looking up at you! Can't wait for you to hold her tomorrow! That may top 'your best day yet' post! Enjoy! Thanks for taking the time to post, I love getting updates and I check in several times a day.

I think I might have a slight obsession with little Mia. Can you blame me?

Great News. Our family thinks and prays for baby Mia daily. The kids wake up in the morning asking to check on baby Mia, so we log on. Thank you for keeping us informed and for being such an inspiration. Baby Mia is a fighter just like her mommy.

In answer of your question...Things with Grace are going well...she was definitely on a LOT of meds when we first came home.
Cyclosporine was one of them, but they have since changed her to Prograf instead of Gengraf. There is a slight possibility it is actually better for babies and not just adults, and also that Gengraf inhibits eating more? I'm not positive, but those were the reasons they gave us for switching her.
Your little Mia looks beautiful. It is all so bittersweet and takes a little while to truly sink in that your baby is actually going to be ok! Its so wonderful.
I'm so happy for your sweet family! I hope that she continues to progress and do well. Breathing on her own is a huge and wonderful step in the right direction!
Keep updating! There are so many people out there praying for you all!
