A little Dip

Mia lost a few percentages this week. Other than her demotion to the 3rd percentile for weight... her apt was FABULOUS. We ran into Mia's Heart sister Karlee and mommy Devon. We love seeing all of the babies that have come so far from when we were all living in the hospital.

Oh and YES- Mia is still eating in her sleep. She is averaging about 23 oz per day. We need to go back to the nutritionist because so much has changed, I mean, I keep changing everything! I am curious however, (because I have never had to be so preoccupied with numbers) how much does a typical 1 year old drink? Mia does take baby food too, usually about 1/2 to 3/4 jars of baby food twice a day. Baby food is a lot of empty calories, but we need to get her moving in the solid direction. So... if you have a 1 year old or thereabouts (I like that word)- how many ounces do they drink?

I know Mia has different needs, but I feel like we are pretty close to where they want her, and I don't want to put her tube back in when she is soooo close. We are on Day 8!! Can you believe it? I think I will fortify her formula to see if we can't boost her up to where everyone is happy with her weight.

We're still battling some blood count levels, and if they don't resolve we may be facing a transfusion...but I keep words like "transfusion" at bay.

Happy 4th of July!!

WAY TO GO MIA... 8 days and counting... you go girl!!!

Owen has 1000cals a day but that is going up to (I assume) 1100cals a day. His formula is 27cal/ounce so he needs 40 0z/day? WoW, that seems like alot. The difference is... he only has 1/2 a heart so he's burning more cals-- so he NEEDS more.

When I think back on Kamryn, I fed her when she was hungry. Somedays she ate more than others. I'd say, relax and don't worry about the numbers for a week and see what happens?! :)

Good Luck and Happy 4th.

Hi Mimi! So glad that things have been going so well with all of you. It's fun to read all of your updates and watch baby Mia grow.

My little Zeke is 10 months old now and weighs around 20 pounds or so. He just started eating solids about a month ago because he just wasn't interested, but definitely was not lacking in the nutrition department. I am still nursing him, but when I give him a bottle he usually drinks about 25-38 ounces a day. He doesn't eat a ton of food right now, partly my fault because it seems hard to always get that fit into our busy schedule and he seems to be doing just fine on milk alone, so I'm not too concerned. So it sounds like Mia is pretty close; hope that helps.

Well, hope you all have a fun and safe 4th of July!!

She looks great! What a beautiful baby you have!! I can't remember how much my kids ate at that age. I know that Zach was in the lower percent for his age and so he was just under 20 lbs when he turned 1

I'm so happy for you that Mia is doing so well! Your babies are too cute!! My baby is 9 months old and he takes 24-32 oz a day. We do 8 oz bottles of formula and he takes 3-4 a day and then he gets a sippy cup of juice/water. Granted he does more solid foods but for everything your Mia has been through it sounds like she is doing great!

day 8 woo hoo. Now a kidney transplant maybe different than a heart but do all you can to not get a transfusion (from experence) Kyler matched my sister for a kidney and then got a blood transfustion and got some anigens that made it so he couldnt get my sisters kidney, and now with having two kidney transplants and one blood transfusion if he looses this kidney he wont be able to get another one for years becuase of rejection will occure faster and faster. Although hearts are so different than kidneys. is she getting epo shots to boost her iron levels?

So we have had to up Kaidence's feeds to 1300-1500 calories/day. She is still not a big eater of food, therefore I feel like I am feeding her non-stop. Anyhow, we have used Duocal to increase her calories. It is a very fine powder and does not change the consistency or taste. You can also bake and cook with it. You have to get a script from your doctor but it has been great for Kaidence. This way she only needs 5 cans of Nutren Junior and two small scoops of Duocal per can and that gets her 1500 calories.

Atleast she's on the charts! There are lot's of babies that aren't even on the charts and haven't been through what Mia has been through. She's amazing! From reading the comments it doesn't seem like she is too far off of where she's supposed to be with drinking. Keep it up!

Hey Mimi--My little boy is now 14 months...born healthy and all, but small. He was rarely on the chart for weight (at 1 he finally hit the chart at the 4th percentile). I'd say at 1 he was taking 24-36 ounces of formula a day. I still stress out about how much he eats...our doc wants him on formula until 18 months as it has more fat/calories than whole milk. Sometimes I really think that they normalized the charts with obese children. Nathan looks and acts and is healthy, and Mia looks great....try not to stress out to much about the eating thing. But I can understand not wanting that tube to go back in. Keep eating Mia!!

So since our babies are exactly the same age, maybe I can help a little. I nursed Ryan for the whole first year, but started him on milk a week early and he seems happy with how much I give him. He takes about 4 sippy cups full a day, and if we're talking baby food increments :) he would probably eat three a day, plus crackers and snacks in between. The only problem is Mia is in the third percentile and Ryan hasn't even made it on the chart yet :)He's almost 18 lbs. But he's healthy and happy and his brothers and sister were all small too so he's okay. I hope this helps. Happy Birthday Mia!
